Purpose Of This Lesson

The purpose of this lesson is to provide a detailed step by step instructions on how to properly log in into your Google Analytics account.

What is Google Analytics?

Google Analytics is a web analytics service offered by Google that tracks and reports website traffic.

It is used to track website activity such as session duration, pages per session, bounce rate etc. of individuals using the site, along with the information on the source of the traffic.

How to sign up for a Google Analytics account if you don’t have yet?

To create a Google Analytics account:

1. Go to this link to sign up google.com/analytics.
Note: If you have a Google account, and are not signed in, click Sign in. If you do not have a Google account, click Create an account.

2. Once you have signed in to your Google account, go to the link.
3. Click Start For Free.
4. Fill in your Account Name, Website Name, Website URL, and select an Industry Category and Reporting Time Zone.
5. Under Data Sharing Options, check the boxes next to the options that you want.
6. Click Get Tracking ID.
7. From the Google Analytics Terms of Service Agreement that opens, click I Accept.
8. Add the Tracking ID to your site.

How to sign into your Google Analytics account?

After ensuring that you have already a Google Analytics account then:

1. Sign into your email.
2. Go to google.com/analytics/ and click “Sign in to Analytics”.

Google Analytics helps you by providing powerful insights about the activity within your website and allowing you to know all the valuable actions and revenue generated online.

It can also help you to improve your website and revenue as all the data about site performance and sales data are available to it.

Google Analytics tracks every visitor in your site daily and you can see how many people are interacting with your site per channel. It also tracks trends over time which can help make online marketing decisions.

Every website has a point of conversion that needs to be defined and Google Analytics allows you to set up conversion goals such as contact form submission, e-commerce sale or phone calls.

Most people are searching before they reach a site and Google Analytics allows you to know what a keyword a user used to find your website. You can also take advantage of this data on your SEO strategy.

  1. Third Party Referrals

Google Analytics also tracks if a third party website is sending traffic to you. This is useful, because you'll be able to see what sites are worth spending more time on, as well as if any new sites have started linking to yours.
